18) Freezing Methods and Quality Loss at Freezing Temperatures
Feasibility will take into account whether it is possible to operate the freezer in tile plant location. A liquid nitrogen freezer (LNF), for instance, may be suitable in every respect for freezing the product and the high costs of using this method of freezing may be justified. However, if the location of the plant is such that there can be no guaranteed supply of liquid nitrogen, the freezer ...
متن کاملIn vivo detection of membrane injury at freezing temperatures.
The release of hydrogen cyanide from Amelanchier alnifolia was monitored at 30 C and -10 C following lethal freezing at both slow and fast rates. Assuming that hydrogen cyanide release indicates membrane damage, it was concluded that during a fatal freeze-thaw cycle membrane damage occurred during cell contraction and, therefore, was not dependent upon membrane area expansion during thawing.
متن کاملWarm growth temperatures decrease soybean cholinephosphotransferase activity.
The activity of cytidine 5'-diphosphate (CDP) choline: 1,2-diacylglycerol cholinephosphotransferase (EC 2.7.8.2) in developing soybean (Glycine max L. var Williams 82) seeds was 3 to 5 times higher in cotyledons grown at 20 degrees C than in those grown at 35 degrees C. Some characteristics of the enzyme from cotyledons cultured at 20 and 35 degrees C were compared. In preparations from both gr...
متن کاملRelationship between athlete’s men cortisol with leukocytosis and Neutrophils numbers after exercise in cold, warm and normal temperatures conditions
Background & Objective: Exercise and extreme environments, causes hormonal and immune systems changes. Therefore, the purpose of this study was evaluating the relationship between cortisol and leukocytosis and Neutrophil numbers after exercise in cold, warm and natural temperatures. Materials & Methods: Ten young male athletes ran on a treadmill for an hour at the intensity of %60VO2max in thre...
متن کاملEthylene removal at low temperatures under biofilter and batch conditions.
Removal of the plant hormone ethylene (C(2)H(4)) is often required by horticultural storage facilities, which are operated at temperatures below 10 degrees C. The aim of this study was to demonstrate an efficient, biological C(2)H(4) removal under such low-temperature conditions. Peat-soil, acclimated to degradation of C(2)H(4), was packed in a biofilter (687 cm(3)) and subjected to an airflow ...
